Mythology and Religion: The sacred in the profane
Texto:

Myths have survived and gained space with the rebirth of cultural interest for the meanings of religion. The myths were born orally and were transmitted through the written word finding in the cinema a very appropriated language that merges image, text and sound. The IV Mostra looked at the cinema as the re-creator of the myth. The film exhibitions were a kind of multiple hero journeys through various mythological traditions: Brazilian-Indian, Afro-Brazilian, African, Jewish, Christian, German and Greek. We had the opportunity to laugh with Monty Python, to watch the deconstruction of the myth Marlene Dietrich through her testimonials and the density of the director Werner Herzog and his prophet in "Herz aus Glas". The Greek-Roman tradition was present in various classic films and in a workshop about Mythology in the Cinema where the Orpheus' Myth was shown on three films of the great directors Jean Cocteau, Marcel Camus and Cacá Diegues. Mythology is in the creation process of all religions, indigenous cultural practices, and huge world religions as well as the supposedly mundane pop stars of the world showbiz.
